Life Decisions

So with 30 looming right around the corner (no literally, in a couple of weeks) I decided it was time to reevaluate things.

For two years I’ve said- well when I get pregnant, well when I stay home with our kids… almost every decision has been colored by the thought that at any moment I’ll get pregnant, give birth, and be a stay at home mom.

Obviously, things have not worked out that way.  So now I’m sitting here thinking that I can’t possibly go on like that.  It isn’t fun.  You look back and realize that haven’t really done squat in years because you are waiting for something to happen.

So I’ve decided to take a different path.  A very different path- but not one that is very surprising to me.

For months now I’ve had this recurring dream.  In my dream, I’m on a bus and I pull up to Navy Basic Training.  The dream always ends with me getting off the bus and getting my hair cut.  In my dream it is about down to my butt.

Odd, right?

So after much deliberation, thought, discussion, prayer, all that jazz- I’ve decided that why the hell not?

My decision was cemented when I was looking through the list of enlisted jobs.  There is a job called a Religious Programs Specialist that basically you are the chaplains right hand man.  You do all types of administrative stuff for the base chapel or shipboard chapel.  Very, very cool.  It’s like working for a church… with uniforms.

It will not be easy.  I have over 100 pounds to lose before I can even call a recruiter.  On top of that I’ve got to be able to run a mile and a half in under 10 minutes.

I can do it.  I know I can.  It’s just a matter of actually doing it.  Making the decision to go walk or run or swim or lift instead of watching tv.

Don’t know if I’ll do active duty or reserves just yet.  It really depends on if I get pregnant in the next year or so or not.  I can sign up for active duty until I’m 34.  Reserves it is 39.  I guess if I’m not pregnant by the time I’m ready to enlist I’ll go active duty (do you hear that sound?  It is that of my mother having a heart attack).  And if I do happen to get pregnant then I will just go reserves when I’m ready.

So that is that.

About Amanda Broyles

Amanda is amazing. Amanda is spectacular. Amanda is humble. Amanda is also a full time college student so take pity on her and don't complain when her TV reviews aren't up immediately following an episode.

You could call a recruiter now. They will help motivate you to lose the weight. When MH enlisted, his recruiter came by the house every morning to wake him up for a run.
Good luck and I really hope this is a positive experience for you.
