HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!

It is the birthday of my idol, Julie Andrews.

I have almost every single possible edition of The Sound of Music.  I’ve gotten a copy of the Sound of Music from every single parish I’ve worked at.  I’ve got the Sound of Music Barbie doll (the only Barbie I’ve ever asked for) after my parents went searching up and down all over looking for it.

I love Julie Andrews- and she loves me.  Hell she named a book after me!

Dear freaky church singing people;

I’d like to thank you for implanting your horrible song in my head.  For the last week I’ve had a constant accompaniment of something about the way and blah, blah, blah.  I can’t escape it.

And I’m sure you’d say something like- well at least our teaching has stuck with you!  When in fact I do believe the opposite of your goal has occurred.  I’ve taken the Lord’s name in vain more often (which is a feat mind you) in the last week due directly to your obnoxious ass song.

You have caused me to sin.  You and your moonwalk.  I don’t know how you sleep at night.  I know I don’t.  I’m too busy humming.

#2! #2! #2! #2! #2!

That’s right folks- The Tide is ranked #2.

After a first half spanking and a second half hanging on agaisnt the Bulldogs- between the hedges, mind you- it is only right that Alabama be at #2.

USA Today has them at #4 behind LSU and Mizzou but that is a load of crap.  LSU was having a tough time with Mississippi State.  Mississippi State.  Only won by ten.  MSU is 1 and 4 now.  Good job Tigers- I’m sure that was a rough one.

Oh well, we’ve got an off week this week (well close enough- playing Kentucky) and then it’s back in the hunt for a national title with Ole Miss- the team that snuck up on Florida, beating them by 1.  (hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha)

So, so exciting!

Almost one week down

I just picked up my ASVAB study book (on the practice test I scored a 100 except for the Mathematical knowledge section) and am ready to go.  Figure if I study long enough I’ll have my pick of ratings when the time comes.

Been trying to narrow down a couple of back up ratings in case I can’t get into RP.

I’m down one inch on my hips, and half an inch on my neck.  Waist has stayed the same- but I’m okay with that right now!

Not a bad start!

and on the ttc front

My appointment was changed to October 7th.  Another Quest screw up.  You would think the arm and a leg that I’m paying them would get me some better service!

Life Decisions

So with 30 looming right around the corner (no literally, in a couple of weeks) I decided it was time to reevaluate things.

For two years I’ve said- well when I get pregnant, well when I stay home with our kids… almost every decision has been colored by the thought that at any moment I’ll get pregnant, give birth, and be a stay at home mom.

Obviously, things have not worked out that way.  So now I’m sitting here thinking that I can’t possibly go on like that.  It isn’t fun.  You look back and realize that haven’t really done squat in years because you are waiting for something to happen.

So I’ve decided to take a different path.  A very different path- but not one that is very surprising to me.

For months now I’ve had this recurring dream.  In my dream, I’m on a bus and I pull up to Navy Basic Training.  The dream always ends with me getting off the bus and getting my hair cut.  In my dream it is about down to my butt.

Odd, right?

So after much deliberation, thought, discussion, prayer, all that jazz- I’ve decided that why the hell not?

My decision was cemented when I was looking through the list of enlisted jobs.  There is a job called a Religious Programs Specialist that basically you are the chaplains right hand man.  You do all types of administrative stuff for the base chapel or shipboard chapel.  Very, very cool.  It’s like working for a church… with uniforms.

It will not be easy.  I have over 100 pounds to lose before I can even call a recruiter.  On top of that I’ve got to be able to run a mile and a half in under 10 minutes.

I can do it.  I know I can.  It’s just a matter of actually doing it.  Making the decision to go walk or run or swim or lift instead of watching tv.

Don’t know if I’ll do active duty or reserves just yet.  It really depends on if I get pregnant in the next year or so or not.  I can sign up for active duty until I’m 34.  Reserves it is 39.  I guess if I’m not pregnant by the time I’m ready to enlist I’ll go active duty (do you hear that sound?  It is that of my mother having a heart attack).  And if I do happen to get pregnant then I will just go reserves when I’m ready.

So that is that.

This took years off my life.

A friend emailed this to me.  I’m considering revoking their friend card because surely they had to know this would stop my heart.

Edit: I fixed the link!  Be warned.

My dogs… again

They get really tired of me taking their picture- I know it.  They’ve told me.

At times a little more forcefully than others…

Or at times with complete apathy…

Or Ginger even tries to hide…

I think if they could talk they would say that they want me to get pregnant more than anyone or anything!

New blogroll addition

I added a blog that a group of girls from the Nest Eco Friendly Family (say that ten times fast) put together.  It is basically a group of girls who have etsy shops to have the chance to talk about their shops since the nest will not allow them to on the board.

I use the Crunchy Clean detergent and absolutely love it.

Here’s the link– it’s also (obviously) on the blogroll.

Mother freaking Theresa

That is my new title.  Right after Basic Keelboat Sailor (which I need to get on scheduling our next class- then I can be called “Basic Coastal Cruiser”- nice).

So I’m in the grocery store and I see this woman just bawling- right next to the organic strawberries.  Now they are expensive but not really something that should be tear inducing.  If you can’t afford them this week, just wait until they go on sale.  Not the end of the world.

Being the kind, loving, in general amazing person that I am- I asked her if she was okay.  We aren’t talking a few tears here folks- it was an all out sob-fest.

Turns out she had just gotten off the phone with her dr’s office.  Turns out she didn’t pass her progesterone test.

I was like- dude, so been there (although I didn’t tell her that I didn’t cry about it).  She told me how they’ve been trying for a year and just started testing and how horrible she feels and how it is never going to work out for her.

No joke I stood there for at least ten minutes listening to her.  I didn’t even get a word in edgewise- a rarity for me.  After she was done I told her good luck and she gave me a hug and was on her way.

I did buy the organic strawberries.

Whether you vote for the man or not

John McCain’s daughter’s blog is pretty cool.  The pictures alone are amazing (I’m a sucker for good photography) but it is also nice to get a little “behind the scenes” glimpse.  I’ve followed for awhile and love it.  She also is in love with Piper Palin.

My only wish is she would put a “who’s who” on the sidebar or somewhere.  But that is just me being nosy.

Here’s the link– I also have it in my blogroll.

Uncle, Uncle!!!!!

All right already people!  This whole tagging thing- not my cup of tea.  I don’t often do them- okay it’s rare, maybe once.  But at least four people have tagged me to do this one so I will do it!

The Rules:
1. Link to the person who tagged you
2. Post the rules to your blog
3. Write 6 random things about yourself
4. Tag 6 people at the end of your post and link to them
5. Let each peron you have tagged know by leaving a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know when your entry is posted.

6 random things about me:
1. When not on my medicine I have a tendency to stutter.
2. I also am incapable of pronouncing the “th” in birthday- it comes out ‘birdday’
3. I smell my food before I eat it- as in each and every bite.
4. I was born on Boss’s Day- which is rather appropriate if you know me.
5. I was once arrested for cattle rustling.
6. I haven’t worn dress shoes in almost a year- I feel like I should wear a badge honoring my achievement.

Now I have to tag 6 people:

So not going to happen.

Oh I am so excited!

Julie Andrews is my favorite actress of all time.  But…. coming in second is totally Bonnie Hunt.  I’ve seen almost every single movie she’s been in.  Only You was fabulous.  Her character in Return to Me makes the movie.  Everything she’s been in I’ve loved!

So imagine my excitement when I turn on the tv and there is Bonnie Hunt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  She has a talk show now!  I was excited when Ellen got a show but I am estatic at this show! I’m not much of a daytime talk show regular but I assure you I now know where my butt will be every morning at 10.

I am astounded.

We went camping yesterday/last night with a coworker of the husband and they showed me a slice of American life I have never been aware of.

Brace yourselves- this is a big one.

Did you know that there are people in the world who have never been camping, never had a s’more- much less a roasted marshmallow, never been fishing, never even set up a tent?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I did not know that these type of people existed!  I had heard of them in folk tales and stories of the like but never before had I encountered one in person.  An experience to be relished I assure you.

I’m not sure at what point I realized that I was dealing with noobs- perhaps when the 4 year old’s fishing pole was unpackaged and we had a “casting” lesson.  Or when the tent came out and hilarity ensued.

Apparently, if you’ve never been camping you have no reason to know how to assemble a tent.

I was told that had we not been there, youtube was going to be consulted…. I found one for them- for next time.

Then we built a fire and introduced these fine folks to s’mores.  Real ones- not the kind from a microwave.

It was love at first bite.

All in all, not a bad night.  Our new tent was hot as two cats getting freaky in a wool sock but we managed.

Can’t wait to get out again!

The greatest invention of modern times

Youtube.

Where else can I spend an entire day watching gems like these?

Or this- seriously, the first time I went to a game (my first was a basketball game) and got to do the Rammer Jammer in person… I got chills!

Of course if you can’t get there in person, you can relive this- perhaps the loudest RJYH on tv to date.  Although the one the other night with Clemson was pretty loud.

(I love the throat slashing comment- methinks someone is a UF fan?)

As a band geek I can’t leave out this- just found this one for the first time this afternoon.

And as a choir director who loves audience participation this one is great!

This one is played before each home game on the jumbotron- a.maze.ing

Still get chills each time.  Especially with the last voice over.  The stadium just erupts!

Greatest college football program of all time- and on our way to reclaiming the glory!
